Governor Jay Inslee proclaims May as Nurses Month in Washington state

“I encourage all people in our state to join me in honoring the nurses of Washington, especially recog­nizing the critical and live-saving role that regis­tered nurses have filled around our state, country, and world through the current coron­avirus pandemic.”


WSNA receives key to city of Federal Way

Gloria Brigham, WSNA director of nursing practice, received a key to the city of Federal Way on April 6 from Mayor Jim Ferrell. Brigham, representing WSNA, was one of seven people who accepted the awards on behalf of healthcare workers, law enforcement officers, firefighters, and grocery workers.


Biennial Report of Achievements

In 2019, the WSNA Board of Directors approved seven strategic priorities to focus the work of the association on areas of greatest importance to registered nurses and the organization. Within those priorities, WSNA staff developed specific goals and action steps and reported back to the Board on a regular basis.


Our strength comes from each other

During this year’s Washington State Nurses Convention, we hope nurses across Washington state will feel connected to and supported by others who have also felt the heavy weight of the pandemic on their shoulders.


PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center nurses rally for safe staffing

Nurses say PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center needs to do more to attract new nurses and retain the nurses it has after a brutal year on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic. On April 10, hundreds of registered nurses and supporters rallied at the Vancouver Waterfront to call for safe nurse staffing at Southwest.



WSNA statement of support for Dr. Benjamin Danielson

WSNA joins the prominent individuals and groups who have expressed concern and support for Dr. Benjamin Danielson in his recent resignation from Seattle Children’s and the Odessa Brown Clinic over ongoing racist and discriminatory practices at Seattle Children’s.


WSNA is seeking new executive director

WSNA is seeking an execu­tive director to take over leader­ship of the organi­za­tion after Execu­tive Director Sally Watkins retires in the fall. Watkins announced her upcoming retire­ment in November 2020, with the inten­tion of supporting the transi­tion of the new execu­tive director and retiring by October 2021.

Nurses will continue to step up and take care of patients through this pandemic; state health officials and hospitals need to step up and make sure nurses have what they need to stay safe and healthy




Meet the 2020 WSNF scholarship recipients

The Washington State Nurses Foundation is thrilled to announce the scholarship winners for the 2020-2021 academic year. Twelve were selected to receive scholarships from the Foundation, receiving a total of $25,000 which was disbursed to their respective colleges in July.

TAKE ACTION: Our census is our power!

A few weeks ago, the U.S. Census Bureau announced that the 2020 Census will end early on Sept. 30, which will result in an incomplete and inaccurate count of people. We cannot let that happen.



A musical film about Florence Nightingale is coming!

When a touring production of this musical was shut down by COVID-19, the producers - in the spirit of Florence Nightingale - didn’t give up! The pandemic made them completely rethink the production and they’re now envisioning it as a film.
